Me with Lowry

Bronze statue of Stretford born artist L.S.Lowry at the junction of Hyde Road and Stalybridge Road, Mottram.

Six months ago I took up art - seriously.  I have been on several courses, bought a lot of self-tuition books, a small fortune’s worth of paint, paper, pencils, pens, brushes and a plethora of other arty goods.  Occasionally I have even practised my latest obsession.

While wandering the uninspiring streets of Mottram near Manchester recently, looking for inspiration, I stumbled upon a fellow sitting sketching on a bench.  Keen to air my new knowledge I settled beside him and made what I believed to be some constructive criticisms of his drawing.  I was rather miffed that he gave me no thanks; furthermore he seemed mildly irritated by my suggestions.

"The Elms" on Stalybridge Road.  Lowry’s home from 1948 until his death (1976).

Every time I met with Lowry, he displayed nothing a silence, honestly John it was like getting blood out of a stone... In the end I just left him, funnily enough in a pose rather similar to your photograph...

They are a strange crew beyond the M25 Keith. Pleasant enough, some of them, but strange!

You've been sitting there with Lowry for sometime now John, I'm surprised you haven't run out of conversation by now...
Perhaps it's time to find someone new to discourse with, and we can get on with our tour of this lovely place.
Honestly I'm bored with Mr Lowry now...

Oh dear! You are not alone Keith in reminding me that I amy have outstayed my welcome on Mr Lowry's bench. I confess to having been wayward and neglectful of my first love. But I am human and weak and red blooded and male. My latest love, 'Engaging Right', is so demanding, and I so eager to satisfy, that I have little time, these days, for anything else. One day, no doubt, she will let me down - they always do - and i shall come creeping back full of contrition and promises. Until then you are more likely to find me busily trying to satisfy Engaging Right's voracious appetite!
